Muscat: Staff and pupils of Masirah Island’s Indian School have moved to a refurbished building with more facilities, an official of the Indian School Board said.

The school has more classrooms with a library, computer lab, audio visual room and playground. Wilson V. George, chairman, Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman, inaugurated the new premises in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Education, Board of Directors, and members of the school management committee, parents and children.

Anil Wadhwa, the former Indian Ambassador to Oman, inaugurated the 19th Indian School in the country on Masirah Island.

The Indian School is the first for an expatriate community on Masirah Island, where thousands of Indian expatriates stay.

The chairman, in his address, applauded the concerted efforts of the school management committee and teachers in providing the best possible education to the children of the Indian diaspora in Masirah.

He also lauded the efforts of the Indian Community in Masirah under whose initiative the school was set up in 2012 to cater to the educational requirements of children of expat parents residing on the island.

Mathew Abraham, education advisor, congratulated the school management and teachers for their tireless efforts in providing a good education despite limitations. He talked about the difficulties faced during the initial stages of the school. A cultural programme was put up by the children and enthralled the audience.

Abdul Jaleel, president of the School Management Committee, delivered the welcome address and Headmistress Santhy Krishnan proposed the vote of thanks. In addition to Board officials, Baburaj and Rafeeq, members of the School Management Committee were also present.
