Nine held for drug offences in Oman

Muscat: The General Directorate for the Control of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances led by the police of the north Batinah governate, arrested five people in wilayat Shinas on charges of possession, abuse and promotion of drugs.
They had a quantity of heroin and one of them admitted that he had brought it from an Asian country by sea.
In another case, the coastguard, in cooperation with the Special Task Force of North Batinah in Sohar Beach, seized 12 packages filled with Opium from a boat.
The agency also arrested another citizen on charges of possession of narcotic substances for the purpose of trafficking and abuse in the area of Hail in wilayat Seeb, and seized a quantity of morphine.
The defendants were referred to the judiciary to complete the rest of the legal proceedings.
The Royal Oman Police asks for all citizens and residents to cooperate in combating the drug scourge and to inform the police of any information that helps detect drug smugglers and drug traffickers by calling 9999, the toll free number 1444 or going to the nearest police station.
