Muscat: Omani Calendar is an electronic application which allows users to check both Islamic and regular calendars, prayer times, and also the nearest mosques in Muscat based on your location.

The app was developed by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MERA), in collaboration with Ooredo.

Last year, the mobile app ‘How to give Zakat’, developed by MERA, won the Best Government Mobile Service Award in the social affairs category .

Zakat is a form of religious tax and is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

With this app, the user can learn about all forms of ‘Zakat’ through its application including zakat of money, gold, silver, stocks, bonds, fruits, livestock, real estate and others.

The ‘Best Government Mobile Service Award’ is an annual award which aims to motivate and encourage government agencies to provide creative and innovative solutions in the field of smart phone applications, mobile phones and smart tech.
