Oman shares retreat on weak investor sentiment

Muscat: Oman’s benchmark MSM30 Index retreated 0.34 per cent to end the session at 4,955.27 points. The MSM Sharia Index closed at 729.86 points, down 0.58 per cent. Al Anwar Holding was the most active in terms of volume while Al Ahlia Insurance led in terms of turnover. Al Anwar Holding was the top gainer, up 5.88%, while Vision Insurance was the top loser, down 6.79 per cent.
A total number of 567 trades were executed on Wednesday, generating turnover of OMR1.77 million with 8.86 million shares changing hands. Out of 30 traded securities, 4 advanced, 12 declined and 14 remained unchanged. At the end of the session, GCC & Arab Investors remained net buyers for OMR470,000 while Omani Investors switched to net sellers for OMR355,000 followed by Foreign Investors for OMR115,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index gained 0.13 per cent to finish at 7,369.40 points. Al Anwar Holding, Al Ahlia Insurance and Bank Muscat increased 5.88 per cent, 1.32 per cent and 1.09 per cent respectively. Vision Insurance, Gulf Investment Services, Ahli Bank, Bank Nizwa and Al Madina Takaful declined 6.79 per cent, 3.80 per cent, 1.82 per cent, 1.09 per cent and 1.00 per cent respectively.
Industrial Index declined 0.16 per cent to close at 6,664.52 points. Oman Fisheries and Oman Flour Mills decreased 0.98 per cent and 0.94 per cent respectively.
Services Index had loss of 0.40 per cent to end at 2,440.23 points. Phoenix Power gained 0.84 per cent to close at OMR0.120. Ooredoo, National Gas, Omantel and Port Services decreased 2.29 per cent, 1.70 per cent, 1.67 per cent and 1.11 per cent respectively.
