Muscat: India’s embassy in Muscat is working hard to help workers at an engineering firm who had complained that they have not been paid for months.
“The Embassy has been in daily contact with the workers. Embassy officials are at the site. All feasible solutions are being explored,” the Indian Embassy said in an online statement.
The matter is related to around 800 workers of a company in Sohar, who have not got their salaries for months. “The Embassy has been working with Ministry of Manpower to resolve it,” the statement added.
Workers at the company say officials at the embassy had collected the details of the employees.
“Workers were also given some money on Tuesday and possible options were discussed. One of them was to grant the workers with No Objection Certificates (NOC) so that they can work in Oman.
“While some wanted to return to India, a section wanted to stay in Oman to look for other jobs here at their own expense,” a worker said.
The workers claimed they have been living without pay and proper food for quite some time.
“We thank the Indian embassy and the Ministry of Manpower, as well as other institutions, for looking into this and for their timely intervention. I hope the dispute shall be resolved at the earliest,” an employee said.
