Oman Airports to supply Kala plant with green waste

Muscat: Oman Airports signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company, a member of Nama Group.

The aim is to supply the green waste of Muscat International Airport to the compost factory (Kala), of the Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company.

The MoU was signed by Sheikh Aimen Ahmed Al Hosni, CEO of Oman Airports, and Qais Saud Al Zakwani, CEO of the Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company.

Sheikh Al Hosni said that Oman Airports is working within the national efforts, which aim at promoting environmental sustainability. He emphasised the role of the circular economy for cities that maximize the sustainable value of environmental resources.
Al Hosni further added, airports worldwide compete to be a model that expresses efforts of their countries in search for environmental sustainability solutions."

Moreover, Qais Saud Al Zakwani, CEO of Oman Wastewater Services Company, said: “This agreement comes within the series of initiatives achieved by the company to implement the concept of sustainability, through preserving the environment and maximising the economic value of our products and services. Recycling and investment of available resources have an utmost priority in the company's operations and natural compost factory (Kala) is a model for these practices."

It is worth mentioning that green waste also known as "biological waste", which is any organic waste that can be converted to fertiliser. It mostly consists of garden wastes, such as grass clippings, tree leaves, and household or industrial kitchen wastes. Green wastes contain high concentrations of nitrogen.
