Muscat: Omanis enjoy the cheapest price for poultry across the Arab world while ranking fourth when it comes to beef prices, a new ranking index has shown.
A new index by the Global Product Prices website, indicating prices for March 2022, shows that the average price of a kilo of chicken in Oman was $2.86 ( approximately OMR 1.10), followed by Tunisia with $2.88 (OMR 1.11), then Jordan with $2.96 (OMR 1.14), and then Egypt with $3.3 (OMR 1.27).
Kuwait recorded a price of $3.93 (OMR 1.51) per kilo of chicken followed by Bahrain $4.45 (OMR 1.71), Qatar $4.46 (OMR 1.71), Saudi Arabia $4.67 (OMR 1.80), United Arab Emirates $5.92 (OMR 2.28) and finally Morocco $9.92 (OMR 3.81).
The Sultanate of Oman was also ranked as the fourth cheapest Arab country for beef prices for the month of March 2022 with the average price of a kilo of beef in the Sultanate amounted to 9.98 US dollars (OMR 3.84). The cheapest beef available in any Arab country is in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at $9.32 (OMR 3.58), followed by Bahrain at $9.34 (OMR 3.59), and the United Arab Emirates at $9.67 (OMR 3.72).
As for Egypt and Morocco, they recorded the highest prices for a kilo of beef at $12.53 (OMR 4.82) and $14.7 (OMR 5.65), respectively.
