Mumbai Stars, Muscat Thunder move into second round

Muscat: Mumbai Stars, Muscat Thunders, Kingsmen CC and Renaissance Rangers registered win in the first round of the Grand cricket T10 Challenge Cup tournament organised by the Grand Global Investment (GGI) at the Al Hail Cricket Club grounds recently.

Mumbai Stars thrashed Darsait XI by nine wickets and Muscat Thunders beat NEI Warriors by five wickets on March 11 to advance into the second round.

On March 12, Kingsmen CC prevailed over Petrofac XI by eight wickets and Renaissance Rangers defeated Misfah Strikers by 50 runs to move into next round.

In other matches on March 11, Sunshine International posted a nine-wicket win over ISWK, KCA easily beat Pakistan XI by nine wickets, Michael XI thumped Rising Phoenix by 10 wickets, Kingfisher Cricketers registered a 29-run win over AKCT and Kalinga Warriors came better against RC Melco by six runs.

Mattco XI beat Aster Hospital by 24 runs and United Friends Club posted a 16-run win against Boom Boom CC in the other matches of the Challenge Cup on March 12.

Chief organiser Ali Humaid al Alawi, Chairman of Grand Global Investment, said the matches were intense and congratulated the winning teams.

Intense competition

“Since all matches were knockout we witnessed very intense competition between the teams,” Ali said.

In the women’s Cup, Indian Social Club Oman claimed the opening win in the round-robin tournament by beating Wadi Kabir Women by 14 runs on March 12.

In the other matches, Sunshine International beat Seema Dance Academy by 10 runs, Wadi Kabir Women thumped Aster Women by 59 runs and Seema Dance Academy beat Aster Women by 12 runs.

Tournament technical director Sanjit Kanojia appreciated CGI CEO Ali al Alawi’s efforts to promote the local cricket, especially women’s tournament.

“Despite the challenges, we have brought together five women’s teams on the field. This is a great effort from Ali al Alawi,” Sanjit said.
