Muscat: Bank Muscat, the leading financial services provider in the Sultanate of Oman, has announced that it is currently screening and evaluating the applications to the 2022 edition of the bank's flagship Green Sports programme.
A large number of applications from different teams across Oman were earlier accepted online through the digital application process during a month-long registration process which concluded earlier last month. Green Sports, which is one of the bank’s longest-running CSR programmes continues to benefit many sports teams across the Sultanate even as the annual programme brings together different generations on a single platform on the evergreen theme of sports. The bank’s efforts complement the government’s efforts to develop modern sports infrastructure across the Sultanate in the spirit of the Public-Private Partnership model.
Once the evaluation process is over, the bank will announce the 20 successful teams whose football fields will be developed in 2022 as part of the Green Sports programme. The Green Sports initiative, which was launched by Bank Muscat in 2012, has supported 143 sports teams across Oman till date. It is estimated that the total number of people who have so far benefitted from this programme throughout the country is over 42,900.
The scope of Green Sports support for sports teams include greening of football fields with natural or synthetic turf, floodlights or water desalination equipment in areas facing problems of water salinity. Ensuring wider representation, the Green Sports programme extends to develop sustainable sports infrastructure across the Sultanate. Also, the facilities developed as part of the programme are often used as a venue for other social activities, leading to stronger community bonding and greater positive behaviour among young people leading to national solidarity and also proper development of talented Omani sports people.
Bank Muscat is proud of the success and achievements of its different CSR programs, which draws from the values of leadership and partnership so as to create a positive impact on Omani society. Bank Muscat’s CSR and sustainability programmes have been well appreciated and received a number of accolades in the past from both local and international organisations. In 2021, the bank was honoured by the Ministry of Social Development and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry for its efforts in supporting persons with disabilities. Earlier last year, the bank also won the Middle East Sustainability Award from EMEA Finance in recognition of its stellar efforts in the fields of sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
