This weekend Ras Al Hamra Golf Club will be hosting the 48th Muscat Open Golf championship on March 11th and 12th. This is the oldest running amateur golf event in Oman and the GCC region, and a signature event for the club.
Yet again the event has attracted a strong field of top amateur golfers from Oman, including Oman National team players along with a large contingent of golfers from Bahrain and other neighbouring countries who will all be vying for the prestigious title of Muscat Open champion.
There was a tremendous interest in the tournament and a handicap cut off had to be applied. As a result, 88 golfers with handicap of 13.2 and below can compete in this year’s prestigious event. The tournament has a waiting list of almost 50 players. These numbers are reflective of the growing interest in golf amongst juniors, ladies and men at the Ras Al Hamra Golf Club.
Ras Al Hamra Golf Club has seen major works recently to ensure that the course is in pristine condition for the club’s signature event.
Corporate support is a key to hosting a successful event and the Muscat Open has again attracted many prestigious sponsors. This year the event has been graciously supported by Hydro and HSBC as Platinum sponsors as well as CMS, Masirah Oil Limited as Gold sponsors. Seven Seas Petroleum and Ramada Encore are Silver sponsors while Milly O’Brien’s golf society is a Bronze sponsor.
Jas Dhanju, President of 48th Muscat Open stated, “We are excited to again host the Muscat Open Golf Championship at Ras Al Hamra Golf Club and we are grateful to all our sponsors for their support. We look forward to welcoming the players to Ras Al Hamra. All preparations are now completed. We thank PDO Recreational Centre for their continuous support as well as all the staff at the club and volunteers who have put tremendous effort in preparing for this event”
