Muscat: Almost OMR11,000 has been returned to consumers in Barka within the first half of 2017, according to the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP).

“The Consumer Protection Department of Barka managed to recover OMR10,564 for a number of consumers. The feedback comes as part of the department’s efforts to resolve complaints in a friendly manner,” the PACP said.
Deposits were distributed to a number of sectors according to consumer complaints.
The construction and construction material sector recovered the highest amount of money at OMR4,820 while the labour services sector recovered OMR1,500. Furniture and mattress shops recovered OMR1,220 while the PACP recovered OMR1000 from repair shops.
“The Department dealt with all these complaints, violations and communications by taking the necessary measures in accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law and other legislations related to consumer protection. Some of these cases were settled while they were referred to the Public Prosecution which in turn referred them to the competent courts to issue appropriate provisions,” the PACP said.
