The move came as a response to a private citizen's pleas, that received wide acclaim in social media circles yesterday.
On the 10th of June, the citizen tweeted to the municipality, saying, "I hope to see a decision by Muscat Municipality prohibiting the dumping of cars in industrial areas and by the sides of roads. Sadly, some individuals have turned empty spaces into warehouses."
In response, Muscat Municipality tweeted images that showed broken down and heavily dirty cars being removed with various cranes, operated by municipality employees. It said, "Muscat Municipalty, after coordinating with ROP, working on an operation to remove many abandoned vehicles located in industrial Mabailah."
