Labour Ministry to provide 35,000 jobs in 2022

Muscat: The total number of job opportunities that will be provided during 2022 will be around 35,000, the Minister of Labour said.

His Excellency Dr. Mahad bin Said Ba'owain, Minister of Labour, indicated in the annual press conference that the number of beneficiaries of training programs associated with employment and on-the-job training in various sectors amounted to 9,859  during the past year.

The Minister of Labour clarified that 247 trainees have graduated through the “Etimad” programme, which aims to empower and train Omanis working in the private sector and raise the level of their leadership and supervisory skills to obtain senior jobs.

 
" There are 57 government institutions that implement the individual and institutional performance system "Ejada", and more than 140,000 employees have received direct training in building career plans in the system, " the Minister said.

His Excellency the Minister said :" The percentage of achievement in the performance indicators for employment and replacement during 2021 amounted to 128.6 per cent. "

"The number of jobs announced in the government sector is 19,097, including 12,669 through replacement and direct employment, and 6,428 employment resulting from training and qualification."

The Labour Minister added that the number of those appointed to the private sector during the past year reached 49,276, of whom 42,609 were appointed through work contracts and 6,667 were appointed through work contracts resulting from on-the-job training.

 Dr. Mahad Ba'owain said that the total beneficiaries of the Job Security Programme during the year 2021 amounted to 10,995 beneficiaries.

According to the Minister the Labour ministry’s total revenues for the year 2021 amounted to about OMR232.9 million, represented in licensing fees, work contracts, fines, and others.

"Through its digital transformation plan, the Ministry worked on electronic linkage with 30 government agencies, including 16 provider and beneficiary agencies, nine beneficiary agencies, and five provider agencies," Dr Mahad Ba'owain said.

His Excellency confirmed that the Ministry is seeking this year to set strategic objectives for the priority of the labour market and employment in the Oman Vision 2040.
