Al Shibaniyah, 7 Omani businesswomen in Forbes list

Muscat: Minister of Education, Madiha bint Ahmed bin Nasser Al Shibaniyah has been ranked seventh in the Forbes list of Top 10 Most Powerful Arab Women in the Government 2017.
Al Shibaniyah has been serving as the education minister since 2011. She also serves as the chairperson of Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and is responsible for drafting educational policies, developing plans to ensure policies are implemented and encouraging private sector investment in school education.
She is also one of the four women from the Gulf Cooperation Council that feature in the list.
Seven high achieving Omani women have been ranked in the Forbes list of most powerful businesswomen in the Arab world 2017.
Amal Bahwan, Vice Chairperson of Suhail Bahwan group, was ranked 12th in the list, followed by Haifa Al Khaifi, CFO at PDO, ranked 26th and Rawan Al Said, Chairperson and MD at National Bank of Oman and Takaful Oman, ranked 28th.
Hind Bahwan, founder and chairperson at Bahwan Cybertek, has been ranked 33 in the list and Huda Al Lawati, Chief Investment Officer at Savola group, ranked 63.
Sharifa Al Harthy, Vice Chairperson at MB Holding, is ranked 69. Lujaina Darwish, Chairpeson at Mohsin Haider Darwish was ranked 72. To compile the rankings, Forbes collected information from annual reports and company websites.
It also took into account company revenues or Gross Domestic Product in the case of government departments and ministries, years of experience and scope of the role of the ministry.
The women featured all represent some of the best known organisations in Oman that include operations in oil and gas, IT, automotive, banking, food and retail and other sectors.
