Athletics: Oman 4x400m relay squad miss out on medal at Asian Athletics Championships

Muscat: The Omani contingent had to satisfy with just one bronze medal as the Sultanate’s 4x400m relay squad finished fifth on the concluding day of the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships in the eastern Indian city of Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
In the final of the 4x400m, the Omani quartet of Salah Ibrahim Al Ajmi, Ali Othman Al Busaidi, Usama Abdulrahim Al Gheilani and Yousuf Thani Al Omrani clocked three minutes and 6.79 seconds to finish in the fifth place.
The event was won by India’s Kunju Muhammed, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Anas and Arokia Rajiv in a time of 3:02.92 ahead of Sri Lankan team of T. Dhananjaya, Kalinga Kumarage, Ajith Premakumara ad Dilip Ruwan, who clocked 3:04.80.
Thailand’s Apisit Chamsri, N. Kongraphan, Jirayu Pleenaram and P. Sunthonthuam timed 3:06.48 to settle for the bronze medal while Chinese Taipei team finished in fourth place.
Earlier in the day, Oman’s challenge in 200m ended in the semifinal stage when Mohammed Obaid finished last in the eight-man Heat 2. Mohammed Obaid had clocked 21.93 seconds.
Oman’s lone medal came on Thursday when Ahmed Mubarak win the 400m bronze.
Meanwhile, the Oman Athletic Association (OAA) chief Younis bin Yaqoob Al Siyabi felicitated Ahmed Mubarak for his bronze-winning performance.
