Athletics: Indian star athlete Krishna Poonia felicitated in Oman

Muscat: A thrilling hockey match marked a felicitation ceremony organised to honour the visiting Indian star athlete Krishna Poonia during the last weekend.
Olympian Krishna Poonia, a bronze medallist in the discus throw in the 2006 Doha Asian Games and 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, visited Oman on an invitation from the Rajasthani community in the Sultanate.
To the honour the former India star, the Team Coorg Muscat and Friends of Naqvi Group in coordination with Rafiq Germania and the Rajasthani community organised a friendly hockey match as part of the felicitation ceremony in Al Qurum.
Krishna Poonia, an Arjuna Award winner, was accompanied by her husband Virendar Singh Poonia, also a former athlete and coach, and winner of Dronacharya Award.
The match between Coorg White and Coorg Colour teams was a thrilling affair and provided entertainment to both Krishna Poonia and hundreds of fans who gathered at the venue to have a glimpse of her.
Later, Krishna Poonia made an inspirational speech while speaking about her experiences and achievements as an athlete.
Krishna Poonia then distributed the prizes to the Coorg teams.
Popular hockey personality S.A.S. Naqvi, former coach of Oman national hockey team and consultant of Oman Hockey Association, gave a vote of thanks on behalf of Team Coorg.

Naqvi also presented a memento to Krishna Poonia on behalf of Team Coorg Muscat and Rajasthani community. Haji Dawood Khan Qureshi, a well known businessman from the Rajasthani community, presented a memento to Virendar Singh Poonia.
Krishana Poonia presented signed certificates to sponsors Haji Dawood Khan Qureshi, Rafiq Germania, Haji Ali Hassan Nagori, Mukhtar Khan, Anwar Qureshi, Zakir Solanki, Yunus Solanki, Anwar Qureshi Ladanu, Haji Jamil Khatri, Haji Jafar Nagori and Islam Qureshi for their wonderful cooperation.
