Muscat: The Ministry of Health announced the start of giving the third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to target groups, starting today, Sunday, November 7, 2021.
The target groups for the third dose are those who have completed eight months from the date of receiving the last dose, and include:
- The elderly, 65 years and above.
- Workers in the field of health care and the front lines of the age of 50 years and above.
- Patients who suffer from chronic diseases from the age of 18 years and above, especially if they are not well controlled, including:
- Patients with chronic lung diseases
- Patients with chronic kidney diseases including:
1. Genetic blood diseases
2. those with kidney failure who are subject to for dialysis. Severe heart disease
3. Diabetes with glycated hemoglobin (hbA1c) greater than 7.6%
4. Blood pressure disease
5. Liver disease
6. Obesity with a body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 30 kg/m2.
Second preference will be given to the following people who have completed three months from the date of receiving the last dose:
-Immunocompromised patients aged 12 years and over, including: -Patients undergoing cancer treatment, and patients who have undergone bone marrow or organ transplants.
- Immunocompromised patients, and those infected with the uncontrolled human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
-Patients receiving immunosuppressive or biologic agents.
