Muscat: A Tamil short film from Oman has been selected for screening at the Indian and Norway film festivals.

The story of the film, “Illaiyadi,” which means “It’s not there,” revolves around a girl reading a poem under a street light.

“Then all of a sudden something happens, which changes everything. But I can’t reveal what happens. People have to watch the movie to know what really happens,” said Tasleem Khan an Indian expat living in Oman who wrote and directed the film.

According to Khan, the film has been selected for screening at the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival in India and the Norway Tamil Film Festival.

“I am really excited and don’t have any words to explain my joy and happiness and I will be representing Oman at both the festivals. ‘Illaiyadi’ has been selected from among thousands of short films from around the world. Being a passionate filmmaker and competing against professional filmmakers internationally would not have been not possible without my wonderful team, which supported me from pre-production to the complete execution of the film.

“We are looking forward to the screening of our film on April 27 in Oslo, Norway and on April 30 in Delhi, India,” he added.

Eight-year-old Tanisha Nasira, who also lives in Oman has played the main protagonist in the film.

Khan has been recognised internationally for his short films in the past few years, especially in Oman, Norway, Estonia and many other prestigious film festivals across the India.

Last year, his other social awareness film based on organ donation called ‘Mezhugu-The Candle’ won awards at about five international film festivals across the world, including the Best Actor at the Norway Tamil Film Festival.
