Muscat: Ships of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), as well as the Iranian navy conducted joint naval exercise (search and rescue) in the territorial waters of the Sea of Oman yesterday.
The drill comes within the framework of the RNO’s annual training plans, besides exchanging experience with friendly countries to test the readiness of the RNO fleet and personnel for their national tasks.
The drill witnessed rescue and naval search operations. The drill was backed by aircraft of the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) and the Royal Oman Police (ROP), as well as participation of helicopters of the Iranian armed forces.
The drill also comes on the sidelines of meetings of the Omani-Iranian Joint Military Friendship Committee being held in Muscat from April 8 to April 15. The two sides discussed several topics listed on the agenda that would contribute in upgrading the relations and strengthening ties in various fields between the two countries.

Al Balushi, Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Planning, Head of the Omani side in the Omani-Iranian Joint Military Friendship Committee, Brigadier Dr. Qadeer Nizami, Deputy Chief of Iranian Armed Forces for International Affairs, Head of the Iranian side in the same Committee and RNO senior officers.
