Ideas come to life during Indian Independence day art fest

55 portraits depicting the love and patriotism Indians have for their country were showcased by 46 artists during a special art show put together to commemorate India’s 75th Independence Day.
Organised by the Indian Social Club’s artists’ wing, Rangrez, the virtual exhibition opened on August 14, the eve of India’s Independence Day, and was provided support by Munu Mahawar, the ambassador of India to Oman.

Soni Budhia, an experienced Indian artist with plenty of competitions to her name, was the curator of the event. Art aside, her skills extend to oil, mixed media and sculpture. Soni curated the show with the help of dedicated Rangrez volunteers, who are all artists themselves.
The organisers paid special thanks to Uma, a committee member and volunteers Harini Kumar, Shalini Kartik, Shalini Varma and Soubam Priyananda.

“Our homeland has a special place in our heart irrespective of which country we reside in,” said Budhia. “When I got the opportunity to curate for the month of August, I felt that since we are a group of Indian artists and August is the month when we celebrate our Independence Day, this would be an apt theme.

“It is an ode on canvas with paint for Mother India,” she added. “Every artist endeavoured to portray their love for the country through their sensitivity. Curating this exhibition was exciting and an eye-opening experience for me.”

“I learned a lot,” she said. “Apart from painting, there are many aspects to learn to grow in the field of art. It helped me develop and hone my skills further. My sincere gratitude to the vibrant team that worked hard behind the scenes to support me, and made this exhibition a grand success.
