South Africa champions, Oman second in International Beach Tent Pegging Championship

Muscat: South Africa emerged the overall champions while hosts Oman settled for the second place as the curtains came down on the inaugural International Beach Tent Pegging Championships in Masirah.
The championship, the first international sporting event to be organised on the island, saw Iraq finishing third among the seven participating nations.
South Africa took the overall gold after collecting 533 points while Oman won the silver with 513 points. Iraq, meanwhile, garnered a total of 511.5 points for their bronze medal.

While the Omanis had to settle for the silver medal, there was some more good news in store for the hosts at the final presentation ceremony when the Sultanate’s star rider Hamed Al Riyami was adjudged the best rider of the championship.
Oman team comprised Hilal Al Balushi, Hamed Al Riyami, Safwan Al Mamary, Ali Al Balushi and Omar Al Hussaini.
His Highness Sayyid Fatiq bin Fahar Al Said presided over the presentation ceremony and handed over the prizes in the presence of International Tent Pegging Federation chief Mohammed Al Fairuz.
