Tokyo 2020 includes the most female athletes in Olympic history

Tokyo: 49 percent of participants are female athletes at Olympic Games in Tokyo this year, according to the International Olympic Committee. This marks the first time the international competition has achieved near gender parity. 

The percentage of female athletes at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games stood at 45 percent.
