Al Awabi is a small traditional village in Oman nestled at the foot of the Al Hajar Mountain range. Located between Nakhal and Al Rustaq and approximately 156 kilometres from Muscat, the village is surrounded by a chain of high mountains and extraordinary rock formations that can be seen in Wadi Bani Kharus gorge in the Al Hajar Mountains.
Al Rami, Al Walija, Al Dhahir, Tawi Al Sih, Al Rajma, Falaj Bani Khuzair, Subaikha, Al Mandhur, Al Baramiyah, Stal and Misfat Al Hatatlah are some of important villages of the wilayat of Al Awabi.
Wadi Bani Kharus is one of the most famous valleys that bear witness to the ancient Omani history. It also has many falajes, rock formations and archaeological inscriptions on some stones and old houses. There are several ancient mosques of which Al Ghamama Mosque in Wadi Bani Kharus is the most famous one. Koor Al Ghaba in Wadi Bani Kharus is a lake with a deep pool of water from which a cascade with white water hangs from atop.
Awabi Fort, which was built almost 200 years ago. is another attraction of this place.
A number of agricultural products are grown in Al Awabi other than dates such as mango, orange, lime, pomegranates, banana, guava, figs along with common vegetables.
