Muscat: Most children with COVID-19 who have mild symptoms are able to recover with home care, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The Ministry of Health has clarified in a publication regarding the care to be taken of a child with Covid-19 at home. Following are the steps:

- Watch carefully for symptoms

- Deal with the child’s fever by giving him/her an antipyretic drug such as Paracetamol ranging between 10 and15 mg/kg of weight in one dose.

- Make sure the child drinks enough fluids to avoid dehydration

- Provide a nutritious diet to the child

- If the child is breastfed, mothers are recommended to continue breastfeeding while taking preventive measures

- Ensure that the child is comfortable and gets enough rest

- Avoid spreading the infection

- Isolate the child at home

- Do not share a child's personal belongings with others

- If possible allocate a separate bathroom for the affected child, if this is not possible, make sure to sterilise and disinfect the bathroom after each use

- When dealing with an infected child, be sure to adhere to the following preventive measures, such as wearing a mask and gloves, throwing them away after each use, and then washing hands.

- Maintain physical distance between you and the affected child as much as possible
