Bootleg cigarettes seized in Oman

Muscat: Thousands of bags worth of illegal cigarettes and chewing tobacco were seized by Consumer Protection in Sur.
The Public Authority for Consumer Protection has confiscated more than a thousand bags of contraband, including cigarrettes and chewing tobacco. The contraband amounted to 456 bags of chewing tobacco which weighed 50 pounds, and 584 cigarettes. This is in violation of Resolution No. 301/2016 regarding the prohibition of illegal chewing tobacco.

The main facts of the case include The Public Authority for Consumer Protection receiving a notice from a citizen regarding the illegal trade of these contraband in an apartment in Wilayat Sur. With permission from the Public Prosecution, law enforcement officers raided the apartment and found a migrant worker in possession of the contraband.

The contraband has been confiscated, and legal action has been taken against the violator, including a fine of 1000 RO. The case was also forwarded to Public Prosecution for investigation.
