Omani students succeed in experimental study involving treated sewage waste

Muscat: A group of students from Shinas University of Technology and Applied Sciences succeeded in an experimental study of cement concrete by adding ashes from treated sewage waste. The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation supports this study. ‎

Asaad bin Saeed Al Hosani, a civil engineering major, said: "The project started in December 2020. The idea came from our specialisation and the requirement of construction and building projects around cement concrete in the field, along with the need to recycle and consume sewage waste."

"The aim of the project is to reduce the use of cement in the concrete mix or to dispense with it by using other materials with the same specifications as cement in terms of strength and hardness, and to contribute to reducing environmental pollution," added Al Hosani.

Asaad Al Hosani stated that the project passes through six main stages, all of which took place in the laboratories of the University. It took one year between experiment, proof and conclusion to reach the final product, which constitutes an achievement in the world of construction.
