Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, on Tuesday issued a decision announcing the Oman Committee for Electronic Games and Sports (OCEGS) and forming its board of directors.
The decision reflects the minister’s keenness to develop the capabilities of Omani youth in all spheres to enable them to contest regional and international competitions and achieve high rankings.
The OCEGS will specialise in regulating administrative, financial and technical affairs of electronic games and sports in line with plans and programmes endorsed by the ministry.
It will also draft plans and programmes necessary for publishing electronic sports in the Sultanate, besides developing them technically by consulting international systems and principles.
The Committee will also be entrusted with organising competitions and championships, devising necessary rules, terms and conditions, granting titles and according awards and positions after obtaining the Ministry’s approval in all cases.
The Committee equips national teams that represent the Sultanate in international and regional tournaments and championships.
The Committee is headed by Majid Abdullah Al Salti (Chairman) and has Abdulrahman Said Al Adawi as Treasurer and the following as members: Asma Said Al Yahya’ee, Mustafa Salim Al Ajmi and Al Miqdam Ahmed Al Adawi. ONA
