Muscat: Omanisation in the Tourism sector is 10.9 per cent according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism.
The statement said, “Investment in integrated tourism complexes has been granted a total number of 20 licenses, and an investment volume which is approximately 5 billion 685 million Omani Rials, which will hopefully provide 15,500 direct job opportunities and 31,000 indirect job opportunities with a total of 46500 job opportunities with the completion of these projects.”
According to statistics from the Ministry of Labour by the end of 2020 the number of direct jobs in the tourism sector reached 142,247 of which 15,523 were Omanis. The percentage of Omanisation in the sector is 10.9 per cent.
Meanwhile, Omanisation in air, land and sea transport activities constitute to 70 per cent, while the percentage in hotel activities is 30 per cent, and the percentage in food service is 5 per cent.
The Omanisation rate in the tourism sector requires a comprehensive review of employment policies and applications in the tourism sector and a study of the incentives provided that would contribute to attracting and stabilizing Omanis, in addition to setting up mechanisms that contribute to encouraging Omanis to take advantage of the job opportunities provided by the sector.
