Oman shares rise on improved trading activity

Muscat: Amid improved trading activity, the MSM30 Index gained 0.29 per cent to close at 5,750.91 points. The MSM Sharia Index ended at 857.38 points, up 0.25 per cent. Oman Fisheries remained the most active in terms of volume while Omantel was the most active in terms of turnover. Oman Fisheries was the top gainer, up 4.40 per cent while Al Jazeera Steel was the top loser with a loss of 0.75 per cent.
A total number of 912 trades were executed on Sunday, generating turnover of OMR3.10 million with 16.7 million shares changing hands. Out of 39 traded securities, 18 advanced, 2 declined and 19 remained unchanged. At the session close, Omani investors remained net buyers for OMR175,000 followed by Foreign investors for OMR94,000 while GCC & Arab investors were net sellers for OMR269,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index increased 0.56 per cent to close at 7,891.31 points. Al Madina Takaful, Al Madina Investments, Bank Sohar, Al Sharqia Investment and Oman & Emirates Holding gained 3.85 per cent, 3.64 per cent, 2.56 per cent, 2.14 per cent and 2.05 per cent respectively.
Industrial Index ended at 7,537.51 points, up 0.56 per cent. Oman Fisheries, Al Anwar Ceramics, Galfar Engineering and Gulf International Chemicals increased 4.40 per cent, 3.18 per cent, 2.47 per cent and 0.70 per cent respectively. Al Jazeera Steel, down 0.75 per cent, was the only loser.
Services Index advanced 0.28 per cent to finish at 3,011.83 points. Al Jazeera Services, OIFC, Al Suwadi Power, Al Batinah Power and Renaissance Services gained 2.63 per cent, 1.86 per cent, 1.11 per cent, 1.10 per cent and 0.95 per cent respectively. Omantel declined 0.34 per cent to close at OMR1.445.
