Oman's diplomacy of peace reflected in external relations

Muscat: Oman, led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, has adopted peace diplomacy for establishing friendship and ties of cooperation with other countries.
This policy, based on principles of peaceful coexistence, cooperation and dialogue is reflected in its external relations.
His Majesty the Sultan, since the dawn of the Blessed Renaissance in 1970 has reaffirmed that the Sultanate has relentlessly worked with other countries and international organisations for establishing and cementing the principles of peace and cooperation among the people of the world. The Sultanate has ties with 157 countries and has 77 memberships in international, Arab and GCC organisations.
The Sultanate has signed 172 treaties, protocols and international and regional agreements in the fields of communications, environment, pollution and combatting terrorism, which reaffirmed the success of its peace diplomacy.
This is in addition to the international and regional agreements in the fields of air transport, education, culture, science, human rights and international law among other fields.
Thirty-three universities, research centres and organisations in the United States unanimously awarded His Majesty the Sultan the international “Peace Award” on 16 October 1998, in recognition to His Majesty’s role in serving and supporting the cause of international and regional peace.
The Russian International Association awarded His Majesty the Sultan in 2007, the Peace Award in recognition to His Majesty’s efforts in serving international peace and cooperation.
In 2007, India awarded His Majesty the Sultan “Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding “in recognition for His Majesty’s efforts for cementing principles of friendship among the nations.”
India’s External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Navtej Sarna said in an official statement “His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said is a leader who enjoys the love and appreciation not only of his people but of the people of the region. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has transformed Oman into a prosperous modern country with strong relations with many countries including India.”
The Oslo-based Arab-European Centre for Human Rights and International Law conferred Arab Man International Award 2016 on His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, in recognition of His Majesty’s support and protection of human rights at the local, regional and international arena.
Since the dawn of the blessed renaissance, His Majesty the Sultan has realised that peace, security and stability are necessities and vital requirements for development and a better life for the peoples and nations.
