Behave yourself on India flights to Oman

Muscat: Think twice before you create a nuisance on a flight.
Some Indian carriers have now started carrying restraints, such as handcuffs and ropes, onboard all international flights, including those to Muscat, to restrain disruptive passengers, if necessary.
A senior official of an Indian airline said the move comes after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India permitted airlines to carry restraints onboard. “We have all types of security arrangements, including restraints on board, and use them to ensure the safety of flights, as and when required. However, it is up to the cabin crew to decide whether or not to use them,” a senior official of an Indian
airline said.
While some airlines use plastic handcuffs, others use ropes to control misbehaving passengers.
“This is being done for the safety of other passengers,” confirmed the country manager of an airline that operates daily flights to Muscat. After restraining passengers, airline officials hand over offenders to the ground staff, once the aircraft lands at its destination.
The directive for the cabin crew is clear on how to handle an unruly passenger. Such a passenger must be observed. The cabin crew must then inform the senior crew members, then the captain and finally, the sky marshal, if he is on board, in case the situation is out of control, before restraining any passenger.
According to airline officials, “Restraining a passenger is the last resort and should be done only if the matter is totally out of control.”
