Muscat: Oman is better prepared to embark on the next phase of its growth and development after the Royal Decrees recently issued by His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, say citizens in the country.

“The state will be able to keep pace with the current stage of Oman’s development through Royal Decree No. 6/2021, which updated the basic laws of the state,” said Qasim Mohammed Darwish from the Governorate of Musandam. “This will also be good for Oman Vision 2040, which aims to improve the overall position of the country.”

He went on to say that “The decree also includes the appointment of a crown prince and the specification of his powers, which is a qualitative and quantitative transfer of the ruling system in the Sultanate. It has a great impact on enhancing the system of smooth governance.”

“Regarding Royal Decree 7/2021, concerning the Council of Oman, the legislative authority will act as the representative of the citizens of this country. This way, our Omani identity will be preserved,” added Darwish.

Adding to this, Alawi Al Mshahur Ba’omar, the co-founder of the Tadhafur think tank, said, “We are witnessing the birth of a new Oman, as these Royal Decrees establish a new system based on the inclusion of a Crown Prince. This guarantees a smoother transfer of power. There is talk about the independence of the judiciary.”

“I hope this includes the establishment of a constitutional court for the separation of powers,” added the Dhofari native. “One important point within these measures is identifying the responsibilities of the Council of Oman. This decree is evidence of the government’s interest in legislative matters, while the Council of Ministers can now focus on being the executive branch of the state.”

Khalid Saleem Al Badi of the Governorate of North Batinah also reacted positively to the Royal Decrees issued, saying, “Despite all the challenges currently facing the world and our country, His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik is launching Oman towards a better future, with the aim of benefiting the Omani people.

“This follows on the efforts of our late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimour to build all of the infrastructure related to a modern state, and establish its solid foundations, stemming from Oman’s great history and based on Arab and Islamic values,” he said.

“These decrees show that the time has come for the next and one of the most significant phases of Oman’s history, to build a more stable and secure society, and one that meets the aspirations of our people,” Al Badi went on to say.

“This will be achieved through the proper delegation of roles towards nation-building and solid partnerships between all those concerned with this development.”
