Indian Aviation Minister calls for emergency Jet Airways meeting

Muscat: India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu has called for an emergency meeting over the grounding of flights by Indian airline Jet Airways.

In this meeting, several points are to be discussed, including advance bookings, cancellations, refunds and safety issues.

He said he had “directed the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Government of India to hold an emergency meeting on grounding of flights by Jet Airways, advance bookings, cancellation, refunds and safety issues, if any,” and had “asked him to get a report on Jet compliance issues immediately from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.”

Five days ago, Jet Airways had said that any media reports which said that the DGCA had told them to stop accepting advance bookings were incorrect.

A statement from the airline said, “We would like to clarify that the recent media reports indicating that DGCA has asked Jet Airways to stop accepting advance bookings is factually incorrect and there is no such proposal.”
