Pakistani killed in Christchurch massacre to be given national award: Imran Khan

LAHORE: A Pakistani national killed during in the Christchurch terrorist attack in New Zealand will receive a national award, Prime Minister Imran Khan confirmed.

Mian Naeem Rashid reportedly died trying to stop the gunman, who targeted two mosques in Christchurch during Friday prayers. Rashid was one of 50 people killed in the attack.

Khan said in a statement, "Pakistan is proud of Mian Naeem Rashid who was martyred trying to tackle the White Supremacist terrorist and his courage will be recognised with a national award."

He added, "We stand ready to extend all our support to the families of Pakistani victims of the terrorist attack in Christchurch."

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Dr. Muhammad Faisal, Rashid was one of nine Pakistanis confirmed to have been killed in the attack. The other fatalities included Rashid's son Talha Naeem, Sohail Shahid, Syed Jahandad Ali, Syed Areeb Ahmed, Mahboob Haroon, Zeeshan Raza, his father Ghulam Hussain and mother Karam bibi.
