Yemen ceasefire: US Secretary of State John Kerry thanks His Majesty

Muscat: US State Secretary John Kerry has praised His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for his role in addressing the region’s most challenging issues.

“Sultan Qaboos of Oman has been a great leader, partner on issues including security and countering violent extremism. Pleased to meet with him,” the US State Secretary tweeted on his official twitter handle.
“Oman is a strong and valued partner. Together we're working to address some of the region’s most challenging issues,” he added in another tweet.
Meanwhile, quoting an official source at Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported that Cessation of Hostilities in Yemen will begin on November 17, 2016, provided the other parties implement the same commitments.
Quoting an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ONA reported that in the context of the visit of John Kerry to Oman and the audience he had with His Majesty Sultan on November 14, 2016, and the efforts exerted by the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah during his meeting with the Sana'a delegation agreed to abide by the terms of April 10, 2016 Cessation of Hostilities beginning on November 17, 2016 provided the other parties implement the same commitments.
The ONA also reported that the parties involved in Yemen issue have also accepted the Roadmap, including the sequencing, presented by the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, as a basis for negotiations for a comprehensive agreement to the conflict.
“They have pledged to work toward the establishment of a new national unity government in a safe and secure Sana'a by the end of 2016,” the ONA added.
“It has also been agreed that these talks will convene by the end of November 2016,” the ONA added.
