Oman Football Association election: I will not seek another term, says Sayyid Khalid

Muscat: After leading Oman Football Association (OFA) for nine years, Sayyid Khalid Al Busaidi has announced that he will not seek a fourth term, when the football governing body goes to polls in September.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, Sayyid Khalid said that “time is right” to step aside. “It was a privilege to lead OFA and I strongly believe that this is the right time to move aside and let the OFA move forward under a new head,” he said on Sunday.
Sayyid Khalid was first elected chairman of the Omani Football Association on August 30, 2007 and his second term began on August 25, 2011.
However, he faced some trouble and the administrative court overturned the issue and in the following election he was once again elected on August 16, 2012.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as the OFA Chairman, and it has been a tremendous honour for me to be able to fulfill the role for the 9 years. I strongly believe that the Association has made great progress in that time, and I see now as the right time to move on. I would like to place on record my thanks for all those that have helped me deliver that progress,” he noted.
Sayyid Khalid’s reign as OFA chairman will intrinsically be linked with Oman winning the 2009 Gulf Cup on home soil. “But my 9 year term has also seen many positive changes of which I am proud, including the Under 16, Under 19, Olympic Under 21 and Beach Soccer National teams winning their own versions of the Gulf Cup during his time,” he added.
