Oman signs Joint Defence Agreement with the UK

Muscat: The Sultanate signed a Joint Defence Agreement (JDA) with the United Kingdom today.

According to a statement from the signing, this agreement reaffirms "the long-standing and historic relationship that binds the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom."

The agreement was signed on the Omani side by H.E. Sayyid Bader bin Saud al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, who said, "The signing of this agreement today reaffirms the importance of optimizing joint military efforts to ensure the security and stability of both friendly countries and pave the way for more cooperation in the filed of defense and joint exercises."

On the side of the United Kingdom, The Right Honourable Gavin Williamson, Secretary of State for Defence, said, "Gulf security is our security, and it is crucial that we expand our horizons and become a truly global Britain after we leave the European Union."
