Muscat: The city of Karachi in Pakistan is set to introduce public transport buses powered by cow manure, authorities confirmed.
According to the ruling Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI) party's official Twitter account, the buses will be powered by cow manure. The animal waste would be converted into bio-gas capable of simultaneously powering a bus and preventing the waste from affecting the environment.
Malik Amin Aslam Khan, Prime Minister Imran Khan's Advisor on Climate Change and Vice President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, said, "Change is happening in Pakistan and this project is going to be a symbol of that change.
It will, he stated, allow people to "think about waste differently, to think about urban mobiltiy differently, and to think about the future of a city differently. It's got three aspects of sustainable development: economic, social, and environmental."
"I think it's a message to the world that you can turn waste into a resource, you can use waste and try to do something positive with it," said Khan.
