Muscat: With the participation of more than 1,000 children, As Seeb International School celebrated its annual sports day with zeal and enthusiasm.
Split across two weeks, over 800 students from the primary section participated in the event last week, while more than 400 from the secondary section took part in a number of games organised by the school on Sunday. The games included football, basketball, high jump, dodge ball, athletic stations, among others.

Speaking exclusively to the Times of Oman, Ahmed Awida, Head of Personal Education at the school, said, “Sports Day is one of the events that all the students eagerly wait for. They start getting excited about it two to three weeks before it is meant to happen. The main idea behind organising it is to help them lessen their stress and divert their minds, while providing a healthy and fun day at the school premises.
A group of three friends from grade nine – Hajer, Samiya, and Malka – who couldn’t control their excitement, said that they love playing basketball and dodge ball.

“I love playing basketball because it gets me full of adrenaline and makes me feel energised, and I honestly just love playing it with my friends and having so much fun with them. It is really amazing,” said Hajer. While Hajer and Malka’s favourite sport is basketball, Samiya enjoys playing dodge ball as “it makes me feel like I am in a war”.

Another bright athlete of the school, Haitham Al Barwani, who has been winning gold in the high jump category, recorded his highest jump this year.
“My favourite sport is high jump as I can jump really high and I am one of the bests in my class. I have been into high jump for about four years, and this year, my highest record was 160cm, while my competitor recorded 155cm. I have been winning gold in high jump for the last three years, with silver being the lowest four years ago,” Al Barwani said.
Awida added that during this event, the school also trains students for its leadership programme by giving control to senior students to take charge of the activities organised for the day.
“This helps students understand responsibility and sharpens their leadership qualities and skills,” Awida said.
