Trump UN ambassador nominee pulls out

Muscat: U.S. President Donald Trump's pick to be his country's new ambassador to the UN has withdrawn her candidacy, the State Department announced.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert had been appointed to the role by Trump in December following the departure of Nikki Haley from the post.

In a statement shared with the media, the State Department said, "Today Heather Nauert withdrew herself from consideration for the nomination of U.S. ambassador to the United
Nations.

Nauert herself stated that while she was grateful for the offer, "the past two months have been gruelling for my family and therefore it is in the best interest of my family that I withdraw my name form consideration."

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo added, "Heather Nauert has performed her duties as a senior member of my team with unequalled excellence.

"I wish Heather nothing but the best in all of her future endeavours and know that she will continue to be a great representative of this nation in whatever role she finds herself."
