158,609 businesses registered in 2018 third quarter

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said that the number of businesses registered in the various governorates of Oman reached 158,609 during the third quarter of 2018. This is an increase of 4.0 per cent over 152,539 registered during the same period in 2017.
The Department of Statistics of the MoCI said that the movement of businesses registered during the third quarter of last year was concentrated in Muscat Governorate, which was 33.70 per cent of the total commercial activities in the Sultanate, followed by North Al Batinah Governorate at 15.6 per cent.
Dhofar Governorate came next at 13.50 per cent and the rest of the governorates were distributed according to the volume of commercial activity. The increase in the number of commercial activities registered in Al Wusta Governorate in the third quarter of 2018 was due to an increase in investments in the Duqm economic zone.
The MoCI also said that Muscat Governorate recorded 53,530 activities, which was the highest, followed by Al Batinah with 24,810 activities. Dhofar Governorate came in the third position, registering 21,394 activities.
Al Dakhiliyah Governorate registered 13,326 activities, South Al Sharqiyah 10,508 activities and South Al Batinah 10,463 activities. In addition to this, 9,385 activities were registered in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, 5,583 in Al Dhahirah Governorate, 2,372 in the Al Wusta Governorate and 1,684 in Musandam Governorate.
