MUSCAT: The first stage of Tour of Oman kicked-off from Sawadi Beach in Barka today. Riders from 18 teams took-off at 11:30am and will pass through Wilayat Musanna, Khaboura, and Saham travelling a distance of 138.5 kilometres to Suhar. His Excellency Abdullah bin Muhammed Al Bureiki, Wali of Barka inaugurated the first phase of the tour. 18 teams from Khazakhstan, Bahrain, United States of America, South Africa, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, France, Netherlands, Spain, and Belgium are taking part in the race that will conclude on February 21. Roads to be closed The Royal Oman police (ROP) has announced that the roads will be closed during the course of the race. In a statement online, ROP said: “During the course of the race, a single lane will be closed to traffic on dual-carriage roads and in both directions on single roads. Traffic will be reopened immediately after each distance is completed. “ "Vehicles will not be permitted to park on the sides of the roads adjacent to the race track,” the police added.
