Spanish film nights in Oman well received

Muscat: Embassy of Spain in Oman sponsored the sixth ‘Spanish Cinema Nights’ in Muscat from May 15-17 at the City Cinema Al Shatti.
Three films were screened, including Marshland, Box 507 and Thesis. This is the sixth year the Spanish embassy has organised the cinema event in the city.
Saeed Al Amri, an Omani university graduate who is very fond of the Spanish language and culture, viewed two of the movies and said he was delighted.
“I think it is a great opportunity to mingle with people from the Spanish community, watch their films and get to learn more about their language and culture.
“I was able to polish some of my accent by imitating the dialogues. I also got to meet and interact with Spanish people from different organisations. It was a lot of fun for me and my friend, who also came to watch the movies with me. I hope they organise this again,” said Al Amri.
The films were shown in the original Spanish, with English subtitles. The embassy event sought to offer a glimpse into the Spanish language and culture, noted officials.
“I have been to Spain a few times, and this event made me want to go back once again,” Al Amri added.
The three selected films were intense thrillers that offered suspense, drama and mystery from different settings and perspectives, showcasing the variety of Spanish cinema in this particular genre.
The Spanish cinema nights have been possible due to the joint efforts of the Embassy of Spain to the Sultanate of Oman, the Department of Culture of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Omani-Spanish Friendship Association, Union Fenosa Gas and Shatti City Cinema, according to a statement issued from the Spanish embassy in Oman. Admission to the films was free.
