A criminal who impersonated a police officer to hijack a car in Muscat has been sentenced to a three-year jail term and an OMR 200 fine, Public Prosecution said.

On May 5 this year, an expat stated that a person knocked on the window of his vehicle when he was parked and identified himself as a police officer.

This person then told the victim that he had parked the vehicle in a no-parking zone and that they needed to go to the Traffic Department in Al Qurm for the victim to pay a fine.

The criminal then took him to Al Batinah highway and threw him out of the vehicle before escaping, the magazine of the Public Prosecution revealed.
