Khoula Hospital conducts complicated brain surgery

Muscat: Khoula Hospital has successfully performed seven surgeries for treatment of aneurysm in the main arteries feeding the brain by using brain catheterisation equipment.
The new technology represents a qualitative shift in health services offered in Oman.
The procedure used for removal of tumours is one of the most difficult operations due to the risk it involves. The operation was conducted by the Brain Catheterization Department of the hospital’s Radiology Unit.
Dr. Ahmed bin Hamood Al Habsi, Interventional Radiology Consultant at Khoula Hospital said that aneurysm is a swelling in one of the blood vessels. With the increase of the size of the wall of the blood vessel, the blood vessel may burst out leading to bleeding to death of the patient, he added.
