Differently abled employees of this hypermarket win customers’ trust

Muscat: Three years ago, Yahya Al Nabhani decided to open a hypermarket unlike any other one in the Sultanate—all the cashiers here are people with special needs.
“I decided that I wanted all the cashiers in my shop to be differently-abled,” Al Nabhani, the owner of Al Thiqah Hypermarket, told Times of Oman.
The project is funded by Al-Rafid Fund and was established in 2015. Al Thiqah, which is the Arabic word for trust, is located in wilayat Seeb in Al Jaffnine area.

Al Nabhani, a former government employee, started this initiative to help people with special needs earn a steady source of income.
“I participate in many events involving people with special needs as my son is hearing impaired, and I found that one of the main problems that the disabled face is a lack of jobs. So, I thought about creating a project that would help solve that problem and help them become independent and create a source of income that will enable them to care of their families,” Al Nabhani said.
He added, “Customers have no difficulty in dealing with our hearing-impaired employees. My staff members are intelligent and skilled enough to deal with customers.”
Al Nabhani intends to continue with this initiative in the future. “If I open other branches, I will continue to hire youth with special needs
