Muscat: The Moon Sighting Committee will meet on Thursday evening at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs to determine the first day of Dhu Al Hijja 1440.
The moon sighting will help set the date for Eid Al Adha, which falls on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijja.
The committee will be chaired by the Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Salmi. Members of the committee include His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate; Sayyid Harib bin Hamad bin Saud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs; Eng. Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Rashid Al Siyabi, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court; and Sheikh Ahmed Al Khatib, Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee in Salalah.
The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs has called upon citizens and residents to help sight the moon, and to inform the field teams in the wilayats or contact the sub-committees of the walis’ offices upon successful sighting of the moon.
