BSM organises annual science fair and exhibition in Muscat

Muscat: The Bangladesh School Muscat (BSM) held its Annual Science Fair and Exhibition-2016 in a festive environment.
Students and teachers from all 12 departments of the school took part in the exhibition. Different innovative ideas and inventions of the students were presented by the departments concerned. The fair also received great appreciation from the visitors.
Fatma Abdul Abbas Noorani, director general, Directorate of Private Schools, was the Chief Guest. Siddiqa Abdul Majeed Al Lawati, director, International School’s Office also accompanied her. Sekander Ali, ambassador of Bangladesh to the Sultanate also attended the exhibition as the Guest of Honour and eminent expatriates enjoyed the vibrant activities presented by students.
Iftakher ul Hasan Chowdhury, chairman, Board of Directors of the school, along with other members also witnessed the colourful exhibition. Innovative ideas, along with quality presentations from the students, pleased the guests. Particularly, the presentations by the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Physics impressed the guests the most.
Under the patronage of Principal Lt Col Mahmud Ul Alam (Retd) PhD and the supervision of the Director of Education Affairs, Major Nasir Uddin Ahmed (Retd), teachers and students of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, ICT, Social Science, Economics, Accounting, Business Studies, Bangla, Arabic, English, and the Art Department took part in the exhibition.
“Apart from theoretical education, we are highly concentrated on practical experiments also. Because as we all know, practical experiments make the students perfect,” said the principal.
. To nurture our wards properly, we do emphasise on both ways teaching. This exhibition is simply the presentation of our regular activities,” he said.
“The Economy of Bangladesh and Oman at a glance” presented by the Economics Department, Market Segmentation, presented by Department of Business Studies and Financial Statement of the firms presented by the Department of Accounting were the highlights of the Commerce faculty.
Replicas of the Shaheed Minar (martyrs’ monument), photographs of the language martyrs and Bengali literary personalities were the highlights of the Bangla stall. So many precious books of the legendary writers were also kept in the stall. The English department displayed posters with quotes on language in various calligraphic styles.
Models of windmills, generators, space ships, etc. were displayed at the Physics stall and comprised the surprise element of the science fair. The Chemistry stall had models of chemical compounds, and an innovative solution for acid, alkali analysis, Chemistry on earth, and Chemistry in daily life.
The Biology Department also showcased various biological models. Students of the department also showed different vital organs of human body and their functions.
Hand-made greeting cards, models of the martyrs’ memorial and posters were the key exhibits of the primary section stall.
The Social Science Department showed a farm house, an exhibit of the atmosphere, models of the water cycle, earth’s formation etc. The Mathematics Department displayed various geometric shapes, mathematical puzzles and models of mathematical formulae.
The ICT department also presented on the threats of the Internet and health problems arising from the use of PCs and laptops. A photo exhibition by staff and students organised by the Art Department was also part of the event.
The Physical Education Department displayed sports-related items.
