Muscat: Two students of Bangladesh School Muscat (BSM) have secured the first position in the Edexcel Country Ranking in Economics and Accounting respectively.
Another BSM student stood second in the Edexcel World Ranking in Bengali. Twenty eight students from the school secured the top 10 Middle East ranks jointly for the June 2014 to
2015 session.
His Highness Sayed Mohammed bin Salim bin Ali Al Said, ambassador and chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate gave away the awards to the students on the occasion of the 45th Victory Day celebration of Bangladesh.
The Edexcel authorities had sent the details of the rankings to the school authorities and also awarded Academic Excellence Medals and Certificates. In the Bengali language, 11 students secured seven of the top 10 positions, excluding the first, third and eighth in the global rankings.
Naima Jahan, student of BSM secured the first position in the Sultanate, in the country rankings in Economics, and at the GCE AS Level. Arfadul Alam Kayes secured the first position in the same ranking in Accounting at the IGCSE O Level. Meanwhile, Shaidul Isalm secured the second position in the world rankings in Bengali Language at the IGCSE O Level.
In the world ranking, Asif Mohammed Pervez secured the fourth position, Pujita Roy came in fifth, Shah Md. Talha Tanvir Rahman was sixth, Meem and Jinia Sultana were seventh, Sadia Nujhat Khan was ninth and Pushpa Rani secured the tenth position in Bengali language.
In the Middle East overall qualification ranking, Meem, Akter Sadia Sharmin and Akther Shirin secured the fourth position jointly; Tariq Amna, Shah Md. Talha Tanvir Rahman, Jannatun Naiyem, Arif, Shaidul Islam, Lakhy Rani Das, Zunayed Habibe, Samiha Abdur Rahim , Razia Sultana and M A Faiyaz stood fifth; Amzad Homaira, Tawaz Tasmia, Joyram Shil, Taslima Yeasmin and Shirin Sultana came in sixth; Shahadat Hossain, Abdul Ahad, Jannat Akter, Jenat Khanam, Mohammed Helal and Mohammed Shakawat Hossain secured the seventh position.
On her outstanding achievement, Naima Jahan thanked the Almighty Allah and the teachers, though she said she was a little disappointed for not securing the top position in the global rankings. She is hoping to achieve that in the next examination.
“At first, I would like to thank the Almighty Allah for giving me such an honour. I am grateful to my teachers and my parents for their continuous support and guidance. Standing first in the Sultanate is not enough, I want to secure the first position in the world rankings. Next time, I will try my best to achieve that. Insha Allah.” Jahan said.
The school also organised a special award ceremony at the MP Hall of the school to honour the awardees, where it gave away medals and certificates to the outstanding students, along with the Edexcel medals and certificates.
Iftakher ul Hasan Chowdhury, chairman, Board of Directors, Bangladesh Schools in the Sultanate congratulated awardees for their tremendous achievements and flying the school’s flag high. He also thanked the teachers for their enormous effort and dedication.
Mohammad Alam, father of Arfadul Alam Kayes, thanked everyone and expressed his appreciation on this great accomplishment.
“My son stood first in the whole Sultanate in a fierce competition amongst so many international students. What else can be better for a father? I am proud of my son. Lots of thanks to BSM,” said the proud father.
