Call to set up centre for food and water security in GCC

Muscat: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Food Security Workshop participants have recommended establishment of a GCC food and water security centre and facilitation of procedures for movement of food items, mainly GCC products among the GCC States.
The two-day workshop, organised at Al Bustan Palace Hotel by the Secretariat General of the GCC States and which concluded, yesterday, also recommended enhancement of the partnership between the private sector and the government sector in the GCC States and establishment of a scientific centre to bring together the efforts extended by the research centres operating in food security in the GCC States.
The workshop, which concluded yesterday, reviewed the food security strategies in the GCC States.
The workshop also focused on the opportunities and challenges in the field of food security.
